Houston – Dr. Heidi Schwarzwald, Chief Medical Director of Pediatrics at Texas Children’s Health Plan, has been appointed to the Board of Directors of Ronald McDonald House Charities® (RMHC) of Greater Houston/Galveston. RMHC® is focused on finding and supporting programs that directly improve the health and well-being of children in the Greater Houston/Galveston community.
Dr. Schwarzwald brings an extensive amount of pediatric experience to her new position with RMHC® of Greater Houston/Galveston. Schwarzwald’s role will involve managing services provided by The Ronald McDonald Care Mobile®, a state-of-the-art, fully-equipped pediatric clinic on wheels. Working in partnership with Houston’s health care leaders, the Care Mobile bridges gaps between uninsured children and local community agencies. The Care Mobile travels to locations lacking pediatric resources and provides services including well-child exams, ill-child exams, school physicals, immunizations and vision and hearing screenings at no cost.
“I’m so honored to partner with RMHC® of Greater Houston/Galveston and help to support the communities they serve,” said Schwarzwald. “I am passionate about childhood health and look forward to supporting the RMHC® mission in Houston and Galveston.”
The Ronald McDonald Care Mobile® provides immunizations and school physicals, which allows children to attend school and their parents to travel to work. The Care Mobile® gives families access to a medical provider for ill-child exams in local neighborhoods and relieves pressure on already overburdened emergency rooms.
“The appointment of Dr. Schwarzwald to our leadership team at RMHC® of Greater Houston/Galveston brings an added level of strength and significance to our 11-year partnership with Texas Children’s Hospital and its entities,” said Tanya Gee, Executive Director of RMHC® of Greater Houston/Galveston. “We are facing a time when the children of our community need our support to provide opportunities for quality health care at no cost.”
Both Texas Children’s Health Plan and RMHC® of Greater Houston/Galveston are committed to making a difference and redefining healthcare for those considered less fortunate. RMHC® of Greater Houston/Galveston believes when you change a child’s life, you can change a family, which can change a community and ultimately change the world.
