Texas Children’s Health Plan notifies members of security incident

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Texas Children’s Health Plan notifies members of security incident

Houston – (10/27/17) – Texas Children’s Health Plan today announced certain members will receive letters notifying them of an incident involving their information.

On Sept. 21, 2017, Texas Children's Health Plan learned that a former employee, against company policy, emailed members’ information to her personal email account in November and December 2016. While the information involved varies, it includes 932 members’ names, addresses, telephone numbers, dates of birth, Medicaid numbers, waiver type, STAR Kids manager’s name and group, and information from a budget worksheet. For a small number of members, it also includes medical record numbers, diagnoses and/or clinical information. Members’ social security numbers and financial information were not included, and member care will not be affected. TCHP has notified law enforcement and will cooperate in any ensuing investigation.

Texas Children's Health Plan began mailing letters to affected members on October 27, 2017, and has established a dedicated call center to address individual members’ questions. If you believe you are affected but do not receive a letter by November 10, 2017, please call 1-877-919-6843, Monday through Friday, between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. Central time.

Texas Children's Health Plan regrets any inconvenience or concern this may cause for members. The organization has implemented additional safeguards and reeducated employees on protecting personal information to help prevent similar incidents from happening in the future.
