New Simulation-Based Tracheostomy Course will be offered On November 29, 2022 and February 16, 2023
Date: November 4, 2022
Attention: Private Duty Nursing Providers
Providers should monitor the Texas Children’s Health Plan (TCHP) Provider Portal regularly for alerts and updates associated to the COVID-19 event. TCHP reserves the right to update and/or change this information without prior notice due to the evolving nature of the COVID-19 event.
Call to action: Texas Children’s Health Plan (TCHP) would like to share a new course on Simulation-Based Tracheostomy. Texas Children’s Hospital (TCH) Simulation Center in collaboration with otolaryngology providers have partnered together to create a simulation-based tracheostomy education course for private duty nursing. The course is scheduled for Tuesday, November 29, 2022 or Thursday, February 16, 2023 from 8:00 a.m. – 12:00PM (Noon) and costs $100 per registration. This Nursing Continuing Professional Development (NCPD) activity awards up to 4.5 contact hours.
How this impacts providers: The simulation course is a unique opportunity that allows students hands-on practice in managing and troubleshooting tracheostomy complications in a safe learning environment. Prior to the in-person course, participants will complete online modules to learn more about tracheostomies. During the course, students will be given simulated emergencies in which they can practice how they would handle the situation in a patent-care setting. By practicing these emergency situations in a simulated environment, the participants will be better prepared to handle them should they occur in real life.
This course is currently offered for private duty nursing, with plans to offer the course to other healthcare professionals in the future.
